Academic Registry

Introduction

The Office of Academic Registry is based at Headquarters and falls under the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Student Services. 

Main Function of the Office of Academic Registry

To formulate and maintain learner admission and assessment policies, processes and procedures for University programmes to ensure the achievement of academic standards and quality of the University awards.

Key Functions of Office of Academic Registry

      • Formulation of student recruitment and enrolment policies and monitoring compliance thereof
      • Formulation of student assessment policies and related procedures and monitoring adherence to such
      • Formulation of student academic record policies and related procedures and monitoring adherence to such
      • Establish and implement policy framework for prior learning
      • Development and maintenance of University Academic Calendar
      • Maintenance of learner academic complaints and appeals
      • Maintenance of learner personal and academic records
      • Logistical arrangements for quality assurance of assessment processes
      • Oversight responsibility for conferment and certification
      • Establishes participation, progression and throughput rates in University programmes to aid in decision making or any interventions needed
      • Provision of Secretarial services to Departmental, School Boards and Senate – not sustainable? Refer to Profile
      • Liaison with relevant regulatory and accreditation bodies to ensure compliance –function of Centre for CTLQA
      • Data returns to external bodies and institutions for strategic planning

Provide strategic management of learner registration, academic records, prior learning assessment evaluations, placement, transfer, study deferment evaluation and graduation by developing and maintaining policies and standards to ensure compliance and the achievement of academic excellence. In the process, it oversees the formulation and implementation of all policies governing student recruitment, admission enrolment, assessment and convocation by ensuring compliance in order to promote the achievement of the highest standards of academic excellence

Student Recruitment and Enrolment

This office is responsible for receiving applications, doing the verification and then passes the information to the Faculties for admissions and registrations. In the process, it does,

Assessment, Certification and Graduation

Manage the provision of all examinations and assessment administration services in accordance with assessment standards, processes and procedures  to ensure that assessment data and records are maintained accurately and examinations efficiently and effectively planned and implemented  to ensure the University achieves its strategic goals and meets learner’s expectations

Student Records Centre

Management of student academic records, and processing of official hard copy and electronic student personal and academic records to safeguard information on University operations and on stakeholders in accordance with university policies to ensure efficient operations and effective decision making

Centre for Prior Learning Assessment

Oversees the assessment and crediting of knowledge, skills and experiences of candidates for purposes of admission into University courses and programmes and manages the daily operations of the centre ( PLA)
