The Information Technology Department is responsible for planning, implementing, managing, operating and supporting all information technology services and infrastructure for the University. Its main objectives is to provide an environment for improved quality and productive use and sharing of information and communications technology (ICT) equipment, applications and systems.

• • • • • Long and short term strategic and technology planning for ICT use in the university
        • Formulate and implement appropriate policies, standards and procedures for ICT use
        • Work closely with systems owners in gathering and analysing requirements for subsequent support
        • Maintain and support the university’s network infrastructure, services, database and systems
        • Provide management of contracts for outsourced services like maintenance of infrastructure and systems
        • Arrange appropriate IT training for all staff on the use of ICTs where necessary
        • Application and system security advice, assessments and monitoring services
        • Provide a first-hand support to ICT users

The department operates from headquarters office with decentralised services to regional offices which are supported by regional IT officers who provide first level user support and coordinate with localised service providers.
