School of Social Sciences

This course focuses primarily on financial management in a wide variety of non- profit organisations. Most of these are organisations that rely primarily on donor support through pledges, grants and endowments. Non-profit making organisations primary goal is not to increase shareholder value, but rather to provide some community social need on an on-going basis.

The aims of this course are to:

  • Equip managers of these organisations with skills to provide leadership and stewardship in the financial management of the hard to find resources
  • Equip managers to interpret financial reports brought to their attention for decision-making
  • Improve the allocation of scarce resources and working capital with in business pertains
  • Generally help managers to have hands on working relationship between financial management, accounting and bookkeeping in the organisational context
  • Equip managers with the skills of studying funding options available for business expansion, including both short and long term financing
  • Manage customer expectations and emotions in challenging financial positions
