A team of professionals from various education institutions in Malawi visited Botswana recently to benchmark with Botswana Open University in areas of Open and Distance Learning (ODL). The areas of cooperation that the delegation was interested in included among many other areas; provision of digital devices, training of ODL practitioners in leadership, governance and management, teacher and student digital literacy. The Malawian Team also sought guidance on a number of other issues like, the establishment of an Open University of Malawi, ODL awareness and advocacy, funding for research, development, dissemination and innovation in ODL, Developing quality assurance and improving systems for ODL and other regulatory instruments.
The leader of the delegation Prof. Joshua Valeta also the Director of ODL at the Ministry of Education in Malawi proposed that the SADC Center for Distance Education at BOU may assist by facilitating the SADC regional proposal on ICT for education where countries will collaborate on device production to make their access easier to students.
