WE ARE ONLINE!

Botswana Open University (BOU) continues to establish itself as a fully fleshed Open and Distance Learning institution as evidenced by the growth it is experiencing on online platforms to deliver learning through Open and Distance Learning mode. The BOU Centre for Instructional Technology recently commissioned the smart classrooms as equipment to be used to conduct classes virtually and cater for those that cannot attend classes in person.

The Instructional Technology Specialist Mr Keitumetse Nduna told attendees of the commissioning that this is a milestone to be celebrated by the University as it showcased how the technology is able to connect regional campuses with Headquarters as well as with other regional campuses.

“Botswana Open University is set to be the first institution to harness the importance and wealth of technology in teaching and learning by 2023’’

- Director for the Centre for Instructional Technology, Mr Molelu

He further said the just commissioned technology would reduce travelling of tutors and learners from various parts of the country. Tutors normally travel to regional campuses to conduct tutorials but because of the smart classroom they will be able to conduct tutorials in all campuses virtually while here in Gaborone.

Mr Molelu cited that there are challenges that the University needs to rectify and the major ones were limited bandwidth and staffing at both Headquarters and regional campuses.
