School of Business & Management Studies
The School of Business and Management Studies (SOBMS) has seen a decade of academic and scholarship progress in providing open and distance learning services. The SOBMS is a distinctive flagship business school with key responsibilities in business and management education and nurturing the leadership talents for the development of Botswana and beyond.
Our contribution to the core business of the Botswana Open University is visible in the programmes it offers, spanning certificate, diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate studies and exciting plans are in place to increase the range of programmes across all portfolios. After the transformation of the then Botswana College of Distance and Open Learning into the Botswana Open University (BOU), the SOBMS has made concerted efforts to consolidate transformational gains, as well as map out and strategize about new diversified products.
Instances include re-curriculation of most of our undergraduate programmes so as to remain internationally, regionally and locally relevant. In tandem with this, is the creation of new departments, staff recruitment drive, quality assurance initiatives aimed at increasing student completion rates, and re-engineering examination procedures and the conduct of quality research across the different qualification levels.
The SOBMS has a diverse international business outlook with around 4 nationalities represented amongst our outstanding internationally recruited academic staff. There are about 2500 students currently studying with the School. Recent years saw remarkable development and expansion of the University. Similarly, SOBMS has made tremendous inroads in achieving its goal of becoming a leading business school. We have already created significant impact on the business community and the society we serve through delivering student-centred education, conducting impact-orientated research, and acting as a catalyst for innovation and sustainable development.
