The School of Science and Technology (SoST) is housed at the Gaborone Regional Campus. It comprises three departments: the Department of Computing and Information Systems, the Department of Applied Sciences and the Department of Engineering & Property Development. The Department of Computing & Information Systems is presently implementing its first programme, the Bachelor of Technology in Information Systems (BTech-IS) and hosts the Huawei ICT Academy (HICTA) which offers a short also industry-relevant IT training. The other two Departments are being established and developing new programmes. SoST aims to provide access to high quality, relevant Science and Technology programmes. These programmes will use innovative delivery approaches and mechanisms that support the University’s diverse student base through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode. The School offers undergraduate, graduate and professional programmes in various areas of Science and Technology designed to equip learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to be productive in the national economy.
Operating under a broad STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) philosophy, the SoST aligns itself with national priorities in education, economic development and workforce readiness. This philosophy is typically used when addressing education policy and curriculum choices to improve competitiveness in science and technology development. STEM has implications for workforce development and national security concerns.
