Faculty of Graduate Studies

The Faculty of Graduate Studies is an administrative centre with the mandate to support the Faculties in the delivery of high-quality graduate programmes at Masters and Doctoral level (Botswana National Credit and Qualifications Framework Levels 9 and 10).

The Faculties have the following responsibilities with respect to graduate programmes:

• Programme initiation and development of curricula, including course materials

  • Student recruitment and recommendations for admission
  • Recruitment and management of part-time tutors and part-time supervisors
  • Programme delivery and research supervision
  • Learner support
  • Examination of Masters courses and dissertations, and recommendation of results to the Board of Graduate Studies
  • Recommendations to the Board of Graduate Studies of part-time tutors, supervisors, and internal and external examiners
  • The role of the Centre for Graduate Studies is to provide centralised strategic and administrative services, as follows:
  • Masters and Doctoral admissions and registration.
  • Organisation of the induction of graduate students, including training on the learning management system
  • Arrangement of capacity building activities for graduate students, academic staff, and part-time tutors and part-time supervisors
  • Oversight of graduate student welfare
  • For Doctoral candidates, management of the examination of theses and processing of results
  • Implementation of needs assessments and programme identification
  • Formulation and review of policies, standards, guidelines and regulations pertaining to graduate programmes
  • Management of quality assurance, accreditation and programme review processes
  • Maintenance of the Graduate Student Information System and performance monitoring
  • Implementation of tracer studies and stakeholder assessments
  • Management of graduate scholarships, grants and prizes, and participation in the Graduation Committee
  • Promotion of international and local partnerships for graduate programmes
  • Administrative support to the marketing, internationalization and outreach of graduate programmes
  • Public relations and liaison with the graduate alumni network
  • Management of the Board of Graduate Studies
